Wigan Athletic and their total football kit just don`t mix too well.
Yesterdays defeat away at Fulham saw the Latics don their orange and black kit once more and once more the psychological barriers that seem to appear when its on the players backs raised their heads again.
Taking the lead only to throw it all away after half time could be put down to fitness levels, concentration, lack of quality but I say take a closer look and do a bit of research and there is a much more in your face reason for these performances.
The Latics away form this season is quite poor but when you analyse it a little more closely you will find that in actual fact when the Latics have worn their regular home kit on their travels they have a 50% win rate.
Three wins away in the Premier League at Aston Villa, Burnley and Wolves have all come in the clubs traditional blue and white stripes, there have also been three defeats but in fairness they were at Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Now look at the results in the orange kits and you find no wins, just two draws (Stoke and Sunderland away) and a smattering of very heavy defeats thrown-in for good measure.
With 44 goals conceded away from the DW Stadium 32 have come whilst Bramble and co have been wearing orange, coincidence? Don`t think so.
Some great performances on their travels haven`t been rewarded, Stoke away, Sunderland away both ended up in draws, Man City for 70 minutes were second best but ran out 3-0 winners, Birmingham at St Andrews and Blackburn at Ewood saw the Latics beaten by the odd goal despite putting up a brave performance, what had they all got in common, yep the orange kit.
Portsmouth couldn`t buy a goal never mind a win, down to Fratton Park throw on the tango and low and behold 4-0 to Pompey, its time to ditch it and never bring it back.
Record in Orange - 34 goals conceded in 11 games, gaining 2pts (no wins)
Record in Blue - 12 goals conceded in 6 games, gaining 9pts (3 wins) - 50% win rate![]()
