Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been charged with `improper conduct` by the FA following comments he made about match referee Stuart Attwell who sent Latics player Gary Caldwell off in the game against Manchester City.
The incident occurred after Attwell had sent Caldwell off for what he termed at the time a two footed lunge and the referee can be seen clearly explaining this to both the player and Latics boss Martinez on TV replays.
Unfortunately for Attwell, Caldwell`s challenge was one footed and this again has been clearly shown on TV replays, so instead of admitting that he got it wrong and everyone moving on Attwell changes his reason for the red card to excessive force, what a buffoon.
Obviously Martinez would be incensed and after the game he said the referee had lied, which he had, but this doesn`t go down too well with the FA who have to be seen backing their referee`s when in actual fact they should have said what Martinez had said, `Attwell you are a big fibber, now grow a spine`
Speaking to the media after the game Martinez said: 'He (the referee) said he saw Gary Caldwell with both feet off the ground. That's why he gave the red card. But Gary Caldwell only went with one foot. That is a real injustice.'
The FA have released the following statement about the charge:
'The charge relates to media comments made about referee Stuart Attwell following Wigan's match against Manchester City on 29th March.
'Martinez has until 22nd April to respond to the charge.'
A bunch of idiots, the sooner there is video refereeing the better![]()
