Emerson Boyce Close to Fitness

Emerson Boyce Close to Fitness

Wigan Athletic defender Emerson Boyce is in a race to be fit for the visit of Portsmouth to the DW Stadium on Wednesday night and it`s a race that he looks like winning.

Boycie has been missing for the past three games due to an injury he picked up in Latics 1-0 win over Liverpool on March 8th and boss Roberto Martinez explained that it was a problem with his lower back and in an area that is difficult to treat but the versatile defender isn`t far away from fitness

Speaking to the press Martinez said: 'Everything started in the game against Liverpool, his problem is his lower back and it's a difficult area to treat because it's quite big.

'After that he got a stiff neck, but I don't think he is too far away from being fit very soon.

'Emerson is not the type of player who misses out on much. I don't just mean games - he doesn't miss many training sessions either.

'He is a great example for all the kids and youngsters at the club.

'His experience is going to be vital - and we all want him to be back as soon as possible.'
