Wigan V Portsmouth: Safety In Sight

Wigan V Portsmouth: Safety In Sight

I feel sorry for Portsmouth FC but what a win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. I hope they go all the way and stun Chelsea as it would really help them and Chelsea might have an eye on winning the Premier League, but its a great moment for Portsmouth as they've reached the final.

Hopefully that means they'll be tired for the game tonight at the DW Stadium but something tells me this isn't all cut and dry as it should be - Portsmouth will fight to the very end and I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled off a result at the DW tonight.

Their fighting spirit is to be admired and I think they'll make it extremely tough, park the bus and say 'Come and break us down, Wigan!' Make no mistake, tonight is a cup final for Wigan. Lose this and it'll be big trouble for Wigan Athletic. Hull won't be a game, it'll be a game that decides whether or not we'll spend a sixth season in the top flight of football.

The Wigan line-up surprised me slightly but not as much as the Portsmouth one but that said, it is not to be taken lightly and I expect a tense battle at the DW tonight and I can't separate either side.

ROB'S PREDICTION
================

I suspect a tough game for Wigan tonight but I also don't think that their EPL status will be more or less secured tonight, either. I think Portsmouth will park the bus and it'll be a massive battle for Wigan. A point isn't a disaster, but its what I see as the outcome.

Wigan 1 Portsmouth 1

ROB'S FINAL THOUGHT
===================

Congratulations to Portsmouth for making the FA Cup final. I really hope you win.
