Dave Whelan - Roberto Will Be Stronger Next Season

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan reckons that next season Latics boss Roberto Martinez will be a lot stronger after being fully acclimatised to the demands and rigour of the Premier League.

This season has seen the Latics involved in some extraordinary games both good and bad with fantastic wins and super performances against Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool and on Sunday Arsenal though this has been coupled with poor performances against Manchester United, Portsmouth and of course the humiliating 9-1 drubbing at Spurs.

Whelan though acknowledges the fact that his manager is on a learning curve and that the step up has caught him out slightly but he believes that next season the Latics under Martinez will go on to be much stronger.

Whelan said: "We have had some great wins, played some super football, but we have had some really poor days"

"Our manager Roberto Martinez has come from the Championship, and he has taken a while to settle into the demands and the pace of the Premier League. It is a huge learning curve and he has to learn fast, which he is doing. It is a massive step up both for players and management."

"I think we will stay in the Premier League, and I truly hope we do because I think next season Roberto will be fully acclimatised to the demands of the league, and I think we will be a lot stronger."
