Reports are suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are about to abandon attempts to sign Wigan Athletic’s French international right-back Pascal Chimbonda.
Spurs manager Martin Jol has already made bids of £2 million and £3 million for Chimbonda, but has had both bids rejected by the Latics who value him at £6 million.
It was suggested earlier in the week that there could be a player plus cash offer on the way with half a dozen different Spurs players mentioned as possible swaps including Danny Murphy, Reto Zeigler Martin and. Wayne Routledge. However there have been no further bids from White Hart Lane in the last few days and reports suggest that Spurs may be turning their attention elsewhere.
It may just me a negotiating ploy on behalf of Tottenham or they may have been put off by the price tag which Whelan and Jewell are adamant about.
Where this leaves Wigan Athletic I don’t know. There’s no point in hanging on to a player who doesn’t want to be at the club, but then again we shouldn’t let him go on the cheap.
