Chimbonda Deal On The Rocks

Chimbonda Deal On The Rocks

Reports are suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are about to abandon attempts to sign Wigan Athletic’s French international right-back Pascal Chimbonda.

Spurs manager Martin Jol has already made bids of £2 million and £3 million for Chimbonda, but has had both bids rejected by the Latics who value him at £6 million.

It was suggested earlier in the week that there could be a player plus cash offer on the way with half a dozen different Spurs players mentioned as possible swaps including Danny Murphy, Reto Zeigler Martin and. Wayne Routledge. However there have been no further bids from White Hart Lane in the last few days and reports suggest that Spurs may be turning their attention elsewhere.

It may just me a negotiating ploy on behalf of Tottenham or they may have been put off by the price tag which Whelan and Jewell are adamant about.

Where this leaves Wigan Athletic I don’t know. There’s no point in hanging on to a player who doesn’t want to be at the club, but then again we shouldn’t let him go on the cheap.

To be fair, the amount of players Spurs are interested in right now, you would do better to hold on to him until his value rises - cos we are chasing about 10 players at the moment!!

Initially would have said for you lot to hang onto him, but seems like he doesnt even want to play for you any more, so like some one said why keep him. Sell him to us spurs or anyone that gives a good offer

The goons have just signed Rosiky for 6.8m. I don't know if you've seen the guy but he is class. I know we have only seen one season's worth of chimbonda but I wouldn't put him in the same category as rosiky.... 6m is far too much. 4m tops in my opinion...

Keep him till after the World Cup, there's no rush. If noone bids 6 million by August then maybe lower the price. Would be silly to accept anything less at the moment, he could go to Germany and attract the interest of bigger teams than Spurs. Maybe he'll change his mind and stay if we sign players of Andy Johnsons calibre.

Chimbonda has had one good season however one good season does not make a £6 million player, Look at Andy Johnson, one good season and then what? Look at when Tottenham signed Zamora, he did not perform at all for Tottenham and has taken a couple of seasons to show any form at all of West Ham yet is still a bench warmer. I am not saying Chimbonda is not worth 6 million on his current form but will his current form continue? Is it worth Tottenham taking the risk? I don't think so! Tottenham are being understandably cautious and quite right too!
