'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Steve Gohouri is a Real Winner

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez faces a selection headache ahead of Saturdays clash with West Ham at Upton Park, Gary Caldwell is available to play after completing his three match ban but the form of stand-in centre back Steve Gohouri has been excellent in Caldwells absence and this is giving the boss a problem.

The Ivory Coast international arrived at the DW Stadium in the last transfer window after he was released from his contract by German club Borussia Munchengladbach and the 6` 2" defender was desperate to make an impression on Martinez not only to win a deal at the Latics but also because he is hoping to force his way into the Ivory Coast world cup squad.

Martinez has been delighted with Gohouri and says he`s a winner, speaking to the clubs official website he said: 'Steve has been working extremely hard since January. When he arrived you could see straight away the desire he had to do well for Wigan Athletic, trying to progress his career and fight for a place in his country's World Cup squad.

'He's a leader, a real character and above all else a winner. From day one we've tried to get his fitness up and know he's a great example of what can be achieved with hard work.'
