Wigan Athletic - Marinez Builds On Youth

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez believes that his squad has real potential and given the right development he sees great performances coming week in week out next season.

Speaking to the clubs official website the Latics boss was obviously still bussing after Sundays win over Arsenal and he is very excited at the prospect of building a great side around his young stars.

With James McCarthy, Victor Moses, Charles N`Zogbia, Hugo Rodallega, Marcello Moreno and Momo Diame giving the nucleus of the first team an average age of just 21 you can understand the managers optimism that the future will be bright.

Martinez` policy of signing young players with their best year ahead of them looks like paying dividends for the club and as the managers reputation grows on the world stage then more and more quality youngsters will be attracted to plying their trade at Wigan Athletic.

Martinez said: 'When you look at the average age of our squad it's a real indication of the potential we have, something many will not have seen at Wigan Athletic for a long time.

'Victor Moses and James McCarthy are 19 years-old, Momo Diame and Charles N'Zogbia are 23, Hugo Rodallega 24 and Marcelo Moreno 22.

'That's an exciting amount of talent and we need to make sure we give them the right development at this club, and carry on re-producing the kinds of performances we saw at the weekend.'
