Dave Whelan -  Players Will Be Leaving


Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that the club will be looking to move some players on this summer as the Latics look to set their new targets for the coming season

There are a crop of the first team squad that are either coming to the end of their contracts or simply just don`t feature in the plans of manager Roberto Martinez, Paul Scharner, Olivier Kapo, Daniel DeRidder and Jason Koumas look likely candidates to be heading through the exit door at the DW Stadium and with the five of them being amongst the clubs biggest earners it should free up some cash for new recruits.

Speaking to the press Whelan said: 'I will be sitting down with Roberto Martinez very soon to discuss budgets. Some players will be staying, some players will be going.

'But one thing we won't do is go the way of Portsmouth and Hull, and just throw money around. We won't be stupid about it.'

lets not spend money like hull and pompey, that would be stupid! I agree that we shouldnt buy players like jason koumas, but we do need to spend money!
