Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan spoke about his pride in seeing the Latics achieve a remarkable feat by gaining Premier League status for a sixth consecutive season.
Speaking to the clubs official website Whelan said that not only was the achievement special but the manner it was gained in the match against Arsenal at the DW Stadium was unbelievable, the Latics were trailing in the game 2-0 with just 10 minutes left on the clock and fought back to take all three points in a 3-2 victory.
The Latics owner also said that the atmosphere inside the ground created by the supporters that day was electric and something that he had never experienced before at the DW Stadium.
Speaking to Wigan Latics TV Whelan said: "I am unbelievably proud to achieve a sixth consecutive season in the Premier League, especially gaining it by beating Arsenal the way we did.
"The whole of Wigan absolutely loved the last 15 minutes of that game and I have never experienced an atmosphere in this stadium like quite that, nothing have I ever felt like that, the atmosphere was electric. For me it was probably the finest moment of my life."
Looking ahead to the next campaign Whelan says that he hopes the experience gained by manager Roberto Martinez will help him achieve his ambition of a top ten finish and states that although there are players leaving that there are replacements lined up.
Whelan continued: "We have got to hope that Roberto has learned and I am sure he has, his ambition for the coming season is to finish in the top half of the league, great ambition and I think we can do it.
"We`ve got a few players going and a few players coming in, we`re still searching abroad and that is what we have got to do."
