Ruben Baraja in Wigan Athletic Link

Wigan Athletic, along with Bolton and West Ham are being linked with Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja who will be out of contract with the La Liga side when his current deal expires at the end of June.

The 34 year old midfield man has just helped Valencia qualify for next seasons Champions League and has openly admitted that he would prefer to stay at Valencia but at the moment it looks as though the Spanish club wont be offering a contract extension to the former Spain international.

Baraja is a quality player with a wealth of experience but his age could go against him where the Latics are concerned, Roberto Martinez although undoubtedly an admirer of his compatriot does like to build his sides around youth.

The midfield man himself isn`t rushing any decisions and he has taken a wait and see approach, Baraja speaking to Sky Sports said: 'It does not depend on me and I have not brought it up,'

'I will not be thinking about whether I stay or not yet. It is a club decision and the only fact at the moment is that my contract runs out on 30th June.

'All I want to focus on now is training well and to be able to play in the games that we have left this season.'
