Latics Speyk To Chelsea

Latics Speyk To Chelsea

Wigan Athletic and Chelsea face each other at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in what is quite possibly the biggest Premier League of the season, we all know what is at stake and we all know the role the Latics have to play in this scenario, quite exciting really.

So with the eyes of the footballing world focusing on the outcome of two games this weekend I met up for a chat with old friend, Blues fan and Vital Chelsea editor merlin, I thought he may need a bit of calming down with such an important game on the horizon, lets see how it went:

worbo - You are sat here on the verge of the title just one game to go, obviously, feeling nervous?

merlin - Strangely enough I`ve tried not to think about it. As one of the old brigade I`m only too aware of how often things went wrong. But, as it draws nearer I`ve got this strange calmness about me, que sera and all that.

Naturally I`m confident but you just never know in this game of ours do you!

worbo - Regardless of how Sunday finishes how would you rate Carlo Ancellotti`s performance this season? What mark out of ten would you give him and why?

merlin - Carlo has done very well. Apart from a Champions League blip that was always going to happen considering who was managing the opposition, we`re heading for a great end to the season. Two wins away from the Double, you can`t knock that can you? As for a mark, 8 out of 10!

worbo - We had our player of the season award ceremony on Wednesday, Charles N`Zogbia was voted the main Latics guy for 2009/10, superb choice, he`s had a great season, who has been the star performer for Chelsea this year?

merlin - Several candidates I`d suggest. Didier Drogba picked up our Fans Player of the Year, Florent Malouda picked up the Players Player of the Year and you should never discount what Frank Lampard brings to the party year in and year out - 26 goals this season, 21 in the Premier League, outstanding!

worbo - Looks like your neighbours could Fulham could finish the season on a massive high with the Europa League final and the chance of being the only English club to taste success on the big stage this year, are you wishing them well for their game against Atletico Madrid or is there a tinge of jealousy?

merlin - Good luck to them I say, we`re always looking out for how our little brother from down the road does. Not sure they feel the same way about us though.

worbo - Three London clubs in the Champions League, definitely going to be a southern club winning the FA cup, do you feel there is a shift in power in the Premier league from the north west to the capital or will it be back to normal again next season?

merlin - Listen, Spurs is just a temporary thing! Arsenal will be the North London team to beat next season whilst we`ll be there or thereabouts. As for a power shift, possibly, considering that Liverpool and Manchester City have failed to achieve their Champions League qualification criteria.

worbo - Well lets cut to the chase, how do you see it finishing on Sunday? Personally I`d love us to win, not to stop you winning the title but just for us to finish the season on a high, but you have so much at stake and I feel that Chelsea are the best team in the Premier League so for me it will, unfortunately, be a 3-1 home win

merlin - I`m keeping quiet on this one. Naturally I expect us to win but I`m not jinxing us with a prediction. All I`m hoping for, nay praying; is to see us all dancing in the Fulham Road on Sunday night!

worbo - As always great talking to you merlin, we`ll see you next season
