Wigan Athletic - It's All Gone Quiet Over There

Wigan Athletic ended the season with quite a bit of a whimper on Sunday at Chelsea and since the final whistle blew in that game bringing to an end Roberto`s first campaign in charge there hasn`t been much noise or news coming out of the DW Stadium.

With a few players coming to the end of their contracts the first Monday after the last game of the season usually sees announcements by the club confirming who`ll be renewing and who`ll be released to make way for new signings, but so far it`s all quiet.

We expect Paul Scharner to be off, but then there is Mario and Mike Pollitt to sort out and it would be nice if one or two more could be shown the door to create some room in the squad, still I suppose there is no immediate rush, after all it`s a few week until preseason training begins

I think we might have to wait for the world cup to finish as some players will hold out, hoping they do well and impress teams higher up than us

Scharner is certainly off. We met up with a few players after the Chelsea game - interestingly, we saw Scharner first by himself heading off home. He was polite as ever and stayed chatting to us for a while and confirmed he will be going but no deal is in place yet as to where he is going to. Obvioulsy speculation that he is off to Fulham, but Scharns said he honestly doesn't know what is happening yet but hopes to stay in the EPL. Very nice guy and we wish him all the best for the future.
