No Jewell For England
Good news! Paul Jewell has said he wouldn't take the England job even if it was offered. His stock has obviously risen following the outstanding job he has done for the Latics, but he said in an interview with the Sunday Mirror:
'I just couldn't stand the politics and all the nonsense that goes with the England job.'
Jewell has helped confound the critics who said Wigan would be straight back to the Championship and has won the Premiership Manager of the Month awards for the last two months.
He continued about the national job: 'it's not good for your family. I am a very private man. There is a lot of baggage that goes with it. I like working with players in training. I don't do meetings. If we have a meeting at Wigan, they don't last longer than five minutes. I've no time for the old school tie and all that nonsense. I am what I am. I'm outspoken. The England job wouldn't be for me.'
He also says he is good at his job and that fact seems to surprise people! 'People look at me and think 'he's a Scouser, he's quite witty, he's this, he's that'. But I'm really quite good at my job, you know. I'm thorough. Of course I'm ambitious. I don't want to be an underdog all my life. But I'm proud to be from Liverpool. The thing is, you don't see many people with Scouse accents getting the top jobs in this country.'
