Mario Melchiot Heads For The Middle East

It looks like Wigan Athletic captain Mario Melchiot has played his last game for the Latics and is set to leave the club and head for the Middle East signing for Qatar side Umm Salal.

Melchiot is out of contract at the end of June and although he has been offered a one year extension it appears that the former Holland international will end his 3 year stay at the DW Stadium and team up with former Ajax and Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate at Umm Salal

Melchiot made 96 appearances for the Latics and was definitely a fans favourite and added a touch of Dutch class to the right side of the defence, good luck for the future Mario from all at Vital Latics

It just said it on a few websites like Wigan Today and SSN and some other places. I think it was probably a short term thing with maybe a reduced wage? That's how Arsenal do it with players over 30 I think. Good luck to Mario though he will probably be a star in Qatar and get a big pay day and you can't knock that. He served out his Wigan contract.
