Wigan Athletic Transfer Gossip Round-Up

It has been a quiet week transfer gossip wise but Wigan Athletic have still been linked to some players from across the globe, lets have a little round up and see who the press say could be coming through the arrivals door at the DW Stadium:

Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper is still be linked with a move to the Latics with Boro, Wolves and Leeds also reportedly showing interest in the Irons leading goalscorer.

Malaga youngster Daniel Toribio was being touted as an almost done deal at the start of the week with the young midfield man supposedly ready to sign on the dotted line, still waiting Danny boy.

Talking of waiting, Recreativo Huelva striker Adrian Colunga is reportedly hoping that Seville match Latics offer for him, so it`s a wait and see on this one too.

Barcelona defender Alberto Botia who spent last season making 24 appearances on loan for Sporting Gijon is another player we have reportedly agreed a fee for, £1 million, Botia is 21 and can play either right back or centre half, sounds promising.

Arsenal and Mexico young striker Carlos Vela has been linked either as part of the deal that takes Hugo Rodallega to the Emirates or just as deal on its own merits with both a year long loan and an outright buy mentioned in different quarters, cant see this one coming off myself but would be a real coup if it was too.

Swansea player Leon Britton is reportedly on his way to the DW Stadium on a free transfer as midfield back up with the Wigan Evening Post saying that he was at Latics training facility Christopher Park during the week.

Argentina forward Mauro Boselli who plays for Estudiantes was the subject of a telephone call from Roberto Martinez and an $8 million bid from the Latics at the start of the week according to a host of newspapers, Bobby trying to act sharpish to get the striker signed up with Sunderland showing interest in the 24 year old.

Atletico Madrid attacking midfield player German Pachecho was/is reportedly close to signing a 3 year deal having passed a medical at the Latics, well according to the Spanish paper Marca anyway, who say that the 19 year old Argentine is definitely on his way to the DW Stadium, definitely hey, hmmm.

Swedish midfield man Dalil Benyahia is another player linked, according to Sky Sports both the Latics and Birmingham eyeing up a move for the 20 year old who currently plays for Brommapojkarna, whoa, say that after a couple of drinks!

Well there you have it, a week of links, some very tenuous, some very strong but none the less they all add to the excitement and anticipation of the close season, great stuff.

Just as a footnote, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea who was very close to signing for the Latics last August for £1.5 million has had a £25 million valuation put on him as both Chelsea and Manchester United eye up the youngster.

Hoping we see some movement next week and lets hope N'Zogbia and Rodallega stay at the DW. I can't see this happening unfortunately. I believe Charlie may stay but has Roberto got a replacement lined up for Hugo? Hopefully we can get some decent strikers in if he does go, but knowing Whelan's tight wallet, it could be a difficult summer. Hope I'm wrong!
