Roberto Martinez Cops Fine For Telling Truth

Roberto Martinez Cops Fine For Telling Truth

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been fined by the FA for what they class has `improper conduct` following comments made regarding match referee Stuart Atwell at the end of the Latics 3-0 defeat to Manchester City back in March.

Atwell sent off Latics defender Gary Caldwell for what he claimed at the time was a two footed challenge on City player Carlos Tevez, subsequently Atwell changed his reasoning to 'excessive force` after Martinez pointed out that the challenge was in fact one footed.

Speaking to the press after the game the Latics boss said that the referee wasn`t being honest and had made a mistake, Martinez got fined £2,250 for his troubles and a warning about his future conduct, maybe he should have been more scathing about a referee that is clearly out of his depth in the Premier League.

A statement on the FA.com website reads:

Wigan Manager Roberto Martinez has been fined.

At an Independent Regulatory Commission today Wigan Athletic FC Manager Roberto Martinez was fined and warned as to his future conduct.

Martinez was charged with Improper Conduct following media comments made in the wake of Wigan Athletic`s fixture at Manchester City FC on 29 March 2010.

At a personal hearing today the charge was proven and, taking into account Martinez`s previous exemplary record, the Commission warned him as to his future conduct and fined him the sum of £2,250.
