Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is once again being linked with a move up to the North East to team up with former Latics manager Steve Bruce at Sunderland.
Bruce apparantly wants to replace current Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon and according to the Daily Mail he sees Kirkland as the obvious choice and the paper says he will make a £5 million offer for the big shot stopper.
Kirkland only signed a four year extension deal with the Latics last June and he says that he wants to repay the faith and support that the club has shown him through out his time at Wigan with his injury problems.
Indeed the 29 year old missed the last two games of the season, once it was confirmed that the clubs Premier League status was secure, due to an operation that he had on a finger injury that`s been troubling him since his Liverpool days. Speaking at the player of the season dinner Kirkland said he had the operation so he would be 100% fit for the new campaign with the Latics.
Ex-boss Bruce stirred a fuss with his endless pursuit of firstly Lee Cattermole and then Maynor Figueroa from Wigan, though he was unsuccesful with Figueroa he does have the habit of being able to unsettle players and Bruce certainly rattled Roberto Martinez when the current Latics manager was scathing of his predecessors recruitment tactics.
If Bruce does fancy taking Kirkland to Sunderland then you can be sure we will hear a lot about it in the press as old Spud Nose knows how to work the media boys, somehow though I dont think the Latics will be too keen to do business with him.![]()
