Mario Melchiot Says Goodbye Wigan Hello Umm Salal

Wigan Athletic skipper Mario Melchiot has left the club and joined Qatari side Umm Salal teaming up with former Chelsea and Ajax coach Henk ten Cate.

The 33 year old defender has been a fans favourite during his three years at the Latics and since his arrival from French club Rennes he has been a virtual ever present in the side and was installed as club captain during his first season.

Goodbye Mario and thanks for your service over the past three seasons

He added a touch of class to the back line but I think its the right time for both club and player for him to move on

Even though he had a pretty average year, I was still sad to see him go. Best of luck Mario.
