Mario Melchiot Says Goodbye Wigan Hello Umm Salal

Wigan Athletic skipper Mario Melchiot has left the club and joined Qatari side Umm Salal teaming up with former Chelsea and Ajax coach Henk ten Cate.

The 33 year old defender has been a fans favourite during his three years at the Latics and since his arrival from French club Rennes he has been a virtual ever present in the side and was installed as club captain during his first season.

Goodbye Mario and thanks for your service over the past three seasons

Even though he had a pretty average year, I was still sad to see him go. Best of luck Mario.

Good luck in Qatar mario. It's a shame we didn't try and get mamadhou dabo on a free transfer.(just joined sevilla) maybe we can get el muhamadi or maybe boyce and gohouri will be given a chance to earn the rb spot
