Zaragoza To Provide Latics With Real Test

Wigan Athletic are set to face Real Zaragoza in a pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium on Wednesday August 4th with a 7:45 kick-off.

The game will see Latics boss Roberto Martinez face his former club and he is really excited about the prospect of top European talent giving his side a stern test before the new season gets under way.

Speaking to the Latics official website Martinez says: 'It will be a great exercise to be able to face a team with the quality, and tactical awareness that Real Zaragoza posses.

'The game will provide perfect preperation for both teams ahead of the new season, and will also be a real exciting game to watch for the fans, featuring two teams that have clear attacking attitudes.

'I am also happy that our new players will have the chance to experience our DW Stadium environment ahead of the new campaign.

'Real Zaragoza have had real success in European competitions throughout the years, memorably in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup competition against Arsenal in 1995 that most of our fans will remember.'

This is the first int'l friendly we've had in a while at home right? avantsweater....we should have played Almania last season but it was called off due to the swine flu outbreak, the last one that I recall was against Vitesse Arnham back in 2006 and the season before that we played Boavista if memory serves me
