No More Moreno For The Latics

Wigan Athletic appear to have given up on the idea of signing Bolivia international striker Marcelo Moreno from Shakhtar Donetsk following his loan spell at the Latics at the back end of last season.

Boss Roberto Martinez says that although the club have first option to buy Moreno a deal is as a good as dead with the sort of fee the Shakhtar have in mind for a player they paid $12 million for just two years ago.

There is also rumoured to be a big money offer on the table for Moreno`s services from a club in Brazil and although he played in 12 games for the Latics last season his failure to find the net is another reason perhaps to give this one a miss.

Martinez said on Moreno: He cost Shakhtar around €12million and I know they have received a big offer recently from a club in Brazil.

'I have spoken to Shakhtar and we're going to keep in touch, but I'm sure they will want to pursue the best financial offer that they receive.

'In terms of the future, it's very difficult to know what Shakhtar will decide, because they have the main say on the matter.

'We had the opportunity to make the deal permanent, but financially we could not meet the kind of valuation that they had.'

'From our point of view, I am delighted Marcelo enjoyed his time with Wigan and he was made to feel at home'

'He played 12 games for us and played a big role in helping us achieve our aims of staying up. We are now going to wait and see what Shakhtar and the player want to do.

'However I think it is very unlikely that we will see Marcelo back here - due to the financial situation.'
