Former Wigan Athletic striker Andy Liddell has hung up his boots and called it a day after almost 20 years in the game playing professionally at Barnsley, the Latics, Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic and Rotherham United.
Liddell joined Wigan in October 1998 signing for a £350,000 fee from Barnsley and he quickly formed a formidable strike force alongside Simon Howarth and Stuart Barlow, he went on to have a great career at the Latics playing at both Springfield Park and then on to the DW (JJB) Stadium, scoring a club record 70 league goals along the way, he also scored Wigan Athletics 1500th league goal.
Following a series of injuries though last season the 36 year old has decided enough is enough and he told Sky Sports News that its time to hang up his boots, Liddell said: 'Your body and mind knows when it is time to finish playing and it's my time now'
'I've had a very good career and made the most of what I was given, but it is time to call it a day now.'
So where to now for the Latics legend?
Sir Andrew, has he is known to Wigan fans as just completed a degree in Elite Sports Performance and he is hoping to be given a chance to carry on in the professional game in some capacity on the coaching side.
He continued: 'I've just finished studying a degree in Elite Sports Performance, which is a bit of everything really, from nutrition and performance to psychology, so hopefully I can use that plus my coaching badges that I've already got.
'I want to get into some sort of coaching or fitness role, but you just need to get that opportunity just like when you start out playing as a youngster.'
Well the best of luck Sir Andrew from all at Vital Latics and we wish you well for the future.![]()
