Wigan Athletic - That Was The Week That Was

Wigan Athletic haven`t exactly been trailblazing across the news columns this week, nor have they been making much of an impression on the gossip pages either, it's all gone very quiet, Mauro Boselli was supposedly flying in on Thursday or Friday and the deal to bring the Argentine hotshot to the DW Stadium was rumoured 'all set to be tied up` by tomorrow (Monday) but I`d have thought that there would have been something mentioned of his arrival in the UK if indeed he had made it.

Let`s have a look back at the week to see what`s been happening then:

Monday and James McArthur`s agent Willie McKay warns the Latics that 'other` clubs are interested in his client, whilst on the transfer front Martinez says that the Latics have received no bids for Hugo Rodallega despite all the speculation in the press.

Tuesday Latics new signing Antolin Alcaraz makes a big impression in the World Cup as Paraguay draw 1-1 with World Champions Italy thanks to an Alcaraz goal, back on the transfer front it was reported that Wigan Athletic are chasing Real Madrid goalkeeper Antonio Adan and hope to bring the 23 year old shot stopper to the DW Stadium on a season long loan deal

Wednesday we are still on the world cup theme with Latics duo Maynor Figueroa and Hendry Thomas part of the Honduras squad that lose 1-0 to Chile in their opening group H game.

An interesting bit of gossip from the game with TV commentators claiming that the Latics have signed Honduras left sided defender/midfield man Emilio Izaguirre and that it will be announced once the tournament is over. We`ll see.

Thursday and the new season fixtures are released and dominate the news pages, Latics start the next campaign off with a trip to Blackpool and end it away at Stoke, whilst on Friday ex-Latics player and former fans favourite Andy Liddell announced his retirement from playing at the age of 36 due to injury.

Saturday brings the news that Nancy are in talks with Premier League sides about the sale of midfield man Landry N'Guemo who spent last season on loan at Celtic and Latics are rumoured to be one of those interested in signing the £2 million rated player.

So then, it`s all very quiet for the close season, obviously this is part due to the World Cup and our manager being out in South Africa but I still like there to be a bit more going on, let`s see what the new week brings.

If rumours are to be believed, we might see Boselli sign next week, but I want to see some more action, too. I want to see Izaguirre sign. Not many clubs are doing business right now. It'll all pick up once the tournament finishes.

You lot have done incredibly wellto stay in the Premiership on limited resources. I remember watching you in The Lancs Combination as a boy - quite a journey!!

Latics v QPR - Big Game Preview

An important game at the DW Stadium tomorrow for the Latics, Gary Caldwell will be hoping to banish the disappointment of conceding a 93 minute goal away at Forest last Saturday that saw a point slip away after coming from behind three times in the game.

QPR are in town, they aren't quite the multi-millionaires that they were the last time that we met, that was in the play off semi-final in 2014, but they do have a squad with lots of quality and will certainly pose a threat.
