Pearce Claims Nelson Valdez Set For The Latics

Wigan Athletic appear to be close to signing Paraguay international and Borussia Dortmund striker Nelson Valdez, well they do according to BBC match commentator Jonathan Pearce any way.

During the commentary of last night`s Paraguay v`s Spain World Cup ¼ final Jonathan Pearce could be clearly heard breaking the news that Valdez is very close to joining Wigan Athletic.

Of course we were linked with a move for Valdez back in May and a deal was almost struck then, so it just might have been agreed in principle and now that Paraguay are out of the World Cup the hard working player could be ready to form a new strike force alongside our other new signing Mauro Boselli.

Valdez is a similar style to Liverpool and Holland player Dirk Kuyt (though not as ugly) and the 26 year old striker like Kuyt isn`t a prolific goal scorer, he joined Dortmund from Werder Bremen in 2006 where he had spent five seasons making 113 appearances and scoring 31 goals for the Bundesliga club, in his time with current employers he has made 112 appearances scoring just 16 goals, he seems to be more of a provider than a taker.

I think there's enough about this team if we can get Valdez. Hold onto Rodallega and we could have a good season - hold onto N'Zogbia and well... perhaps the sky could be the limit.

Would be a great signing with Alcatraz - perhaps you could get Santa Cruz as well

Wigan 1-2 Bradford Match Report

Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.
