Wigan Athletic - Opening Game Set For Switch?

Wigan Athletic - Opening Game Set For Switch?

Wigan Athletics first game of the season scheduled to take place away at Blackpool`s Bloomfield Road ground on Saturday August 14th looks like it will be switched to the DW Stadium, according to the News of the World.

The newspaper are claiming that the work to have the ground up to Premier League standards will not be completed in time for the big kick off and that they are also struggling to be ready for Blackpool`s second scheduled home game against Fulham on August 28th.

Work started after the last season ended to increases capacity by 5,700 and also to conform with Premier League rules regarding press seats and camera positions and it is this that has caused the problems.

From a selfish point of view this will give the Latics their first home start to a season since 2005 when we faced Chelsea in our inaugural season in the top flight

I think it's great that Blackpool are the in PL - but this work should really have been completed on time ready for the kick-off. Blackpool should have had measures in place for work to start straight after the playoff victory. Obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing, but messing with fixtures is not going to please the FA.
