Latics V Blackpool Fixture Switch, Official

As reported on Sunday on Vital Wigan the Latics opening game of the season against Blackpool that was scheduled to be played at Bloomfield Road is now switched to the DW Stadium.

There are concerns that redevelopment work being carried out at the Seasiders ground won`t be completed in time for the Premier League opening weekend n the 14th August so after consulting the powers that be Blackpool and the Latics have reversed the fixture.

A statement released by Blackpool FC reads:

"Following ongoing discussions with the Premier League in respect of the agreed improvements to both Bloomfield Road and it's facilities it has been decided, by all parties, to reverse the clubs opening day fixture against Wigan Athletic FC.

"The Premier League Board felt it was important to take this decision as early as possible to give both clubs and their supporters maximum time to plan accordingly.

"The club would like to thank the Premier League, Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors for their help and flexibility on this situation."

It`s a home start after all
