Wigan Athletic defender Emerson Boyce may be back in pre-season training but whilst the majority of his Latics team mates were either in South Africa for the World Cup or sunning themselves on a beach the likeable 29 year old spent part of his summer holiday working in America in his ambassadorial role with Street Soccer USA.
Boycey was joined by Liverpools David N'gog, Stoke City star Ibrahima Sonko and Aaron Brown from Leyton Orient who all flew out to Los Angeles to take part in a kick about with members of one of the charities soccer teams.
Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) is sport for development program of HELP USA,
which believes ending homelessness is a team sport. Through a systematic
approach, SSUSA builds community and trust through sport with
participants and volunteers, transforming the context within which they
live from one of isolation, abuse, and marginalisation, to one of
community, purpose, and achievement, requires participants to set 3, 6,
and 12-month life goals, and empowers participants by providing access
to services and educational/employment opportunities through their Jobs
Academy.
Street Soccer USA Founder, Lawrence Cann says: "Ending homelessness
and poverty is indeed a team sport, and when athletes and world citizens
like Emmerson and Ibrahima join the team it affirms our players efforts,
inspires our volunteers, and teaches us all the power we have as
individuals to change our world."
Nice one Boycey
