'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Is Back From Scouting and Punditry

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is back from South Africa where he combined both a scouting mission and commentary duties for US broadcaster ESPN during the recent World Cup.

The Latics boss was keen to check three potential new signings but he admits that their performances were so good during the tournament that their transfer values have been pushed beyond the clubs budget.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez says that he did spot four players though who did have question marks over them that have shown that they could well make an impact on the Premier League if the Latics took a chance with them.

Martinez said: "There were three players in particular I was really excited to see, but they did too well - and that has probably pushed them out of our price-range!

"Maybe we`ll see that interest come to fruition further down the line, perhaps in the next couple of transfer windows.

"When the prices start to come back to normal, maybe they will become realistic targets again.

"On the other hand, there were four other players who showed they are ready to play at the highest level, whereas before they weren`t recognised as this sort of player, so there`s plenty to think about."

Let's hope so, and let it be players in rather than out.
