Martinez - Jones Is Staying at Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has reaffirmed the clubs stance that assistant boss Graeme Jones is going nowhere.

Speculation has been rife that Jones would return to his former club Swansea to take up the managerial position that`s been made available with last terms boss Paulo Souza departing South Wales for managers job at Championship rivals Leicester City.

Yesterday the Latics issued an official statement concerning Jones` future at the DW Stadium, it read:

"Wigan Athletic would like to confirm Graeme Jones is looking forward to the new season and remains deeply committed to carrying on his work alongside Roberto Martinez and the rest of the coaching staff"

Now Martinez has come out and said that Jonesy is very happy at the club and he will be staying, he also says that it shows that they are doing something right to get these compliments, Martinez said:"I know how good Graeme is. That`s why he is working for us!"

"Seriously I would just like to reassure the fans Graeme is very happy here and will be staying.

"If we get speculation about the players, I always feel it is a compliment to us all because it means we are doing something right.

"And it`s no different at all with the staff off the field.

"You don`t want to lose anyone, but there`s no harm in people complimenting them. It`s something to be proud of."
