New Skipper Required - Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic, following the departure of Mario Melchiot, find themselves without a club captain and although there are one or two strong candidates, boss Roberto Martinez hasn`t made his mind up yet as to who will be wearing the skippers arm band for the 2010/11 season.

Titus Bramble took ownership for a few games towards the end of the season when Melchiot was out injured but listening to the bosses words it doesn`t seem a given that the big defender is set to be the automatic choice.

Martinez says: "We haven`t decided yet and it`s something that we will look at in the coming weeks"

"There are a few strong characters in the dressing room, good leaders which will develop nicely throughout the preseason.

"It has to be a figure that is respected by the group and who will lead them. It`s a kind of natural selection and one of the easiest selections you`ll see in the dynamics of the dressing room"

For me there are two strong candidates in Titus Bramble and Gary Caldwell, but then there is Chris Kirkland to be considered and of course Steve Gohouri looks to be a real character, maybe Martinez fancies none of these and is looking at a new signing picking up the mantle, who knows.

My choice would be Titus, but who is yours, why not let us know via the poll on the right side of this page, simply select your option then hit the submit button, its that easy

Titus for me

For me its got to be Titus but isn't him and Caldwell out for the start of the season? That being the case it could be Alcaraz or Gohouri.

For me its got to be Caldwell. When he came in for us last season you could see him talking throughout games, organising and trying to get the team motivated. At the time it made a huge difference, although admittedly he had a couple of dodgy games too. For me its that sort of talker and motivater that we need. I think Titus is too quiet and his track record when put under pressure throughout his career hasnt always been the best.

i think that its got to be caldwell, no doubt, implus titus will be out for the beginning of the season so you cant have your captain out
