Wigan Athletic - Loan Deal Agreed For Al-Habsi

Latics have signed Omani international goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi on loan for the season from Barclays Premier League rivals Bolton Wanderers.

The 28 year old has been at the Reebok Stadium since 2006 and has impressed on the occasions when he has played in the first team, ironically making his Premier League debut against Latics in a 1-0 defeat at the DW Stadium in 2008.

The 6ft 4 ½ inch keeper has also appeared in the UEFA Cup for Bolton, notably against Bayern Munich, and Roberto Martinez is convinced he has attracted a quality player to the squad.

"We need competition in every department, and Ali will certainly do that," he said, "he has a terrific attitude to the game and after four years in England knows all about the Premier League. We are delighted to welcome him on board."

The Muscat-born keeper first made his name in Europe at Lyn Oslo in Norway, and has appeared 70 times for his country.

Great news.

Bad move by Bolton imo. Better than Jussi or Kirkland. Can even roll the ball out! Lucky Latics! Made a miracle save for us at the Allianz Arena. Hope you have a clause enabling you to come back if Jussi is injured! Hope you get a few more games than you did with us last season.

Better than Jussi or Kirkland? Huge call. A fit Kirkland is a very good player.
