Wigan Athletic - Players Condition Delights Boss

Wigan Athletic are back in training preparing for the new season and manager Roberto Martinez is delighted with the condition of the players as they are put through their paces and he says the attitude that they have shown is also first class.

The squad minus those who participated in the world cup have reported back and Martinez says that the job of the coaches and fitness guru at the Latics is to get the players into peak condition with 50 sessions scheduled before the season opener against Blackpool at the DW Stadium on 14th August.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said: "The first impressions when you start pre-season are always very telling, and it was great to see the players come back in good shape and with a good attitude.

"The first few sessions are always hard for the players as they get back into rhythm.

"But they`ve responded to the work really well and we`re very excited about the work to be done.

"It`s a tough time for players to come back to, the body has loosened up a little and it can be hard to get back to fitness.

"But we`ve had plenty of work so far and the bodies are becoming more and more prepared for the intense work to come.

"The next 50 sessions are paramount now, as the players work hard to get themselves into the right condition."
