Momo Diame Looking Ahead To New Season

Wigan Athletic midfield man Momo Diame is looking forward to his second season as a Premier League player after what he described as a massive learning curve during his first year at the Latics.

Diame was signed last summer from Spanish second division club Rayo Vallecano and thrown straight into the fire making his debut the day after signing in the 5-0 home defeat to Manchester United.

Speaking to the Latics official website, that first season Diame says gained him a lot in terms of experience and he feels it went well on a personal note but he is quick to stress that there is still a lot more to come from him and he is sure that he, along with the rest of the team will improve this coming year.

Diame said: 'My first season went well, I loved it, although it was in no way amazing'

'It could have been a lot better, but it was a big learning curve for me and I picked up a lot in terms of experience.

'The inconsistency of the team has been well-documented, and we can all improve, including myself.

'I didn't see anything specific I could put my finger on.

'The level of hard work we put in was there, and it's just a matter of keeping going and hopefully it will happen for us next year.

'The team will benefit from having worked together for a year, and we'll be working harder than ever to reach a higher level of consistency."

With goals at a premium last season, the Latics managed just 37 in the league, Diame realises that the midfield carries responsibility to chip in with the scoring and he feels that just getting on target once was a big disappointment during the last campaign.

This season he has set himself a target of five and says that scoring has always been a big part of his game, Diame continued: 'The goal I scored at Sunderland was a long time coming, and I was getting frustrated about the situation.

'But once it came, I relaxed a bit and hopefully there is more to come in that department.

'My game has always been based on scoring goals as well as creating them, and it's a side of my game that I would like to show to the fans.

'I will be setting myself a target of five goals for next season, and hopefully I can get there.'

Yeah Diame is a bad ass. He just need to realize it! When he's on form he dominates the midfield. Great player.

Five is too conservative. Aim higher, man, the sky's the limit! Thirty goals a season, like Lampard! No? Okay ten then.
