Latics Off To Austrian Training Camp
Wigan Athletic have headed off to their Austrian training camp in the spa town of Bad Bleiberg where they will be intensifying their fitness schedule to get themselves prepared for the big kick-off against Blackpool on 14th August.
Whilst away in Austria the Latics will play at least two matches with boss Roberto Martinez eager for his side to hit the ground running when the real stuff begins.
Martinez said 'We'll be travelling to Austria again where as well as completing a specific training programme we'll also play two games before heading back home."
Training camps are not only designed to build the players fitness they also help the players to bond, with the Latics having new additions to the squad the time spent away will help the morale and team spirit, an importance that`s not lost on Latics assistant boss Graeme Jones who points to the recent world cup to cite how a good team spirit is necessary to aid success on the pitch
Jones said: 'The trip will also bring the players closer together and I think we've all seen during the World Cup the importance of team-spirit. Teams like Argentina, Germany and the Netherlands showed how much that contributes, and it's highlighted when you consider the negativity within the French camp.'
Latics are set to face La Liga side Real Zaragoza when they return from Austria with a friendly arranged to take place at the DW Stadium on Wednesday 4th August with a 7:45 kick-off, a game which the boss is clearly looking forward to.
Roberto Martinez says: 'It will be a great exercise to be able to face a team with the quality, and tactical awareness that Real Zaragoza posses.
'The game will provide perfect preparation for both teams ahead of the new season, and will also be a real exciting game to watch for the fans, featuring two teams that have clear attacking attitudes.
'I am also happy that our new players will have the chance to experience our DW Stadium environment ahead of the new campaign."
