Wigan Athletic Set To Break Transfer Record?

Wigan Athletic are being linked with making a club record £7 million bid for Chile striker Humberto Suazo who plays for Mexican club Monterrey but spent the last six months of last season on loan at Spanish club Real Zaragoza.

The Daily Star claim that Latics boss Roberto Martinez is set to make the offer for Suazo who he wants to bring in as a direct replacement for Hugo Rodallega following speculation that the Colombian striker could be set to move from the DW Stadium with a number of clubs showing interest.

The Latics have been linked with Suazo previously but he moved to Real Zaragoza in January initially on loan with a 10 million euro option already agreed between the Spanish and Mexican clubs, with Zaragoza not taking this option the door is open for the Latics to step in.

The 29 year old striker scored 6 goals for Zaragoza in 17 games and he looked a handful when representing Chile in this summer`s World Cup finals in South Africa even so this would be a very surprising deal if it went through especially with Martinez already spending big with the signing of Mauro Boselli
