Vote For Your Latics Man of the Match

Wigan Athletic played their one and only home preseason friendly last night when they took on La Liga side Real Zaragoza at the DW Stadium.

The first half was a close encounter with both sides having chances with the Latics fielding what will possibly be regarded as the first eleven and looking quite impressive, especially going forward.

Zaragoza took the lead with a penalty following a break by Marco Perez, a player who could have doubled for Usain Bolt such was his speed, Jorge Lopez crashed the ball down the middle to give the Spanish side the lead but the Latics continued to press for the rest of the half and were rewarded right on 45 minutes when Charles N`Zogbia finished off a great move and the half ended 1-1.

The second half saw a lot of changes and this disrupted the cohesion of the play so for man of the match we will concentrate on the eleven that started the game.

N`Zogbia looked quality every time he was on the ball, Boselli showed some nice touches and Watson was aggressive and busy in midfield, at the back both Gohouri and Alcaraz settled quickly and showed that they can play the ball out from the back but head and shoulders above the rest was Momo Diame.

Diame was excellent, showing continually for the ball when the Latics were in possession and tenaciously fighting for it back when Zaragoza had it, he seemed to be all over the pitch supporting both the defence and attack and he had a real presence in the Latics midfield.

Yes for me Momo Diame was the man of the match, but was he yours, to vote access the poll on the right side of this page, select your choice and then hit the submit button, it`s that simple,

Diame was MOM because he was on the longest. But for me the best players whilst on the pitch where Watson and Stam.

Pluses were Alcaraz, Diame, the two Macs, Stam and Watson. The rest were OK apart from Gomez, Kirkland and Rodellega. I dont think we would miss any of them if we could get Brucie to take them. To me, after watching the game last night, it looks like it is a case of the deckchairs being reorganised on the Titanic.

Gillingham 1-1 Wigan Match Report

Being top of the league didn't last long, did it? We'll leave that talk until May from now on. We drew 1-1 with a well-drilled Gillingham side.

Paul Cook made one change to the side that beat Southend United 3-0 on Saturday. Ivan Toney returned to the starting line-up, replacing Will Grigg.

It was an open first 20 minutes, which saw both sides miss good opportunities. Gavin Massey, Nathan Byrne and Dan Burn all had chances to open the scoring, while Sean Clare came close with a vol
