Latics Speyk to Hartlepool

Latics Speyk to Hartlepool

Wigan Athletic are travelling up to the North East for the 2nd round Carling Cup tie this week when we will be renewing acquaintances with an old friend in Hartlepool United.

I have managed to grab a few words with the editor of Vital Hartlepool, PooliePoolie about the game, lets see what was said:

worbo - Howdy, I hope you are well and looking forward to the game, I am, it`s a nice distraction from a wretched start to the season for us, a chance to shake a few cobwebs off away from the pressure of the Premier League. How`s your start to the season been?

PooliePoolie -Surprisingly good, we're unbeaten in our first four games. A solid draw at Rochdale, a cup shock against Sheffield United, a really good performance in the draw against Swindon and then a great win at Yeovil, a place that we lost 4-0 at just a few months ago. The most pleasing part for me has been how much more organised we've been, our new formation is working really well.

worbo - I read at the weekend that your boss Chris Turner has resigned, what`s gone on there?

PooliePoolie - Basically it was a bit of a falling out with the chairman. I can't say many fans were sad to see him leave, a nice bloke but sadly couldn't cut the mustard in the managers position. Mick Wadsworth is in temporary charge and he's the one who has been responsible for our new formation, most fans are happy to have him in charge for a couple of months before a new permanent manager comes in.

worbo - My hopes for the Latics this season is Premier League survival, though after just two games things aren`t looking too clever at the DW Stadium, there`s plenty time yet I know and we do have some decent players. What about Hartlepool, is your squad good/strong enough to put in a challenge for promotion this season and who are your star players?

PooliePoolie - I said at the start of the season I'd be happy with survival in the division, and that remains the same despite a hugely encouraging start. If we can keep our great start going then I can see us finishing in the heady heights of mid-table obscurity. The further away from the drop zone the better!

worbo - When we were in the lower leagues I always got a massive buzz when we were drawn against top division clubs in the cups. I know we aren`t exactly top draw but we are a Premier League club, how did you feel when we were pulled out of the bag to face you?

PooliePoolie - I must admit I was a bit disappointed, particularly when Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland were all in the draw. However, last season we played then Premier League side Burnley in the cup it was one of the most entertaining matches of our season so I have high hopes for the game.

worbo - Prediction for the game, I see it being a close affair but I think we will just have enough to see us through though it will go all the way, I`m going for a Latics win 2-1 after extra time, how do you see it?

PooliePoolie - I think we have a great chance, from the highlights I have seen you look like quite a fragile side and if we can get at you I think we could win the game. A lot depends on what sort of side you manager picks, will he go for the first team or try and rotate his squad? Either way I reckon it'll be a tight game and we'll pinch a 2-1 win.

worbo - Thanks for the chat PooliePoolie and good luck for the season ahead

Hi, scott from vital hpool. I and i know a few more poolies think that if we dont win we should be disappointed. Still good luck on tuesday, have a safe journey. And being a latics follower in my spare time i would like to wish you good luck for the rest of your premiership season.
