James McCarthy Man of the Match v Chelsea

James McCarthy was voted the Wigan Athletic man of the match in the 6-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday by voters in the last poll on Vital Latics

The young midfielder had an excellent first half when Latics more than held their own and although the rest of the team faded in the second half McCarthy came out with credit for his continuing effort throughout the game

The result of the poll was:

James McCarthy - 44%
Ronnie Stam - 20%
Momo Diame - 10%

The new poll is available on the right side of this page and its asking who will win the Carling Cup 2nd round tie between the Latics and Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

To participate in the poll just select your option and then hit the submit button, its that simple.

mccarthy has been best in both latics games.if the rest of the team showed the desire and effort that mccarthy does they wouldnt have lost any games.

McCarthy is not the most technically gifted player in the squad, but he wants to play for this club and boy does it show!
