What The Boss Said - Hartlepool 0-3 Latics

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez was clearly delighted with the Latics first win of the season last night, albeit against League 1 opposition in the form of Hartlepool United in round 2 of the Carling Cup, but as they say a win is a win.

Speaking to the press after the game Martinez said the energy was much better and that the team is slowly beginning to gel.

Martinez said: 'I am very pleased with many aspects. We showed energy and performance and we are starting to do things we were working on in the summer.

'In the Premier League we've been doing good things but at the wrong time. In this game we did it at the right time and we are slowly gelling together.'
