Al-Habsi Latics Man of the Match At Hartlepool


Wigan Athletic supporters made Ali Al-Habsi the Latics man of the match in Tuesday nights Carling Cup victory against Hartlepool United up at Victoria Park in the on loan goalkeepers first competitive game of the season.

Voting in the last poll on Vital Wigan the pollsters gave a resounding thumbs up to the Oman International who joined in the summer from local rivals Bolton Wanderers.

Al-Habsi didn`t have too much to do in the game in fairness but when he was called into action he was solid and he did produce an excellent on handed save tipping a rasping shot from Hartlepool player Joe Gamble over the cross bar.

For the records the poll result was:

Ali Al-Habsi - 90%
Jordi Gomez - 7%
James McArthur - 2%

With Ali Al-Habsi making such a big impression on his debut Vital member GrahamF has suggested that our next poll should ask the question 'Which Keeper Should Start Against Spurs?`

Kirkland has started the season in poor form and conceding 10 goals in two games cant have done his confidence any good at all so maybe it`s time for a change between the sticks.

I like Mike Pollitt but he isn`t getting any younger and I`m sure he is for emergencies only anyway, so with that in mind I think Ali Al-Habsi should be given a shot. Thats my opinion, who do think should start?

I'm sorry guys but to have a MOTM that is your goalkeeper when playing a league 1 side doesn't say too much for the rest of the team. He should have been a spectator for most of the game. I wish you well for the season, after saturday and excluding the 2nd april that is. I really hope we don't put another nine past you. No team deserves that (except perhaps arsenal), and least of all your manager.
