International Destinations For Latics Players

Wigan Athletic players will be travelling around the globe this week and next as they embark on trips to meet up with their international teams and represent their countries as the next round of international competitions get underway.

Of course England face Bulgaria in a Euro qualifier tonight (Friday) at Wembley to give us all an alternative to Eastenders but for Latics fans there will be interest in other games as we shall see.

Maynor Figueroa is off home as Honduras have two games lined up, one against neighbours El Salvador on Saturday and then Canada on Tuesday.

Hugo Rodallega will be heading in roughly the same direction as Figueroa, Colombia have two friendlies lined up, a Friday evening game with Venezuela and on Tuesday Hugo and co will face Mexico.

Our third international on duty from the Americas, Antolin Alcaraz will be heading off to Asia with the rest of the Paraguay squad as they face Japan on Saturday and China Tuesday, the Paraguayans will be hoping to continue the excellent form that they showed in the World Cup Finals.

Ali Al-Habsi will be in goal for Oman when they tackle Qatar on Tuesday, the very likeable shot stopper will be trying to claim his 3rd clean sheet in a row, good luck Ali.

Steve Gohouri is also in his country`s squad as the Ivory Coast face Rwanda on Saturday.

New loan signing Tom Cleverley is in the England Under 21 squad that face Portugal tonight (Friday) and Lithuania on Tuesday, whilst James McCarthy will be with the Republic of Ireland Under 21`s as they face Switzerland Friday and Turkey on Tuesday.

Whilst the involvement of our club players will give the Latics fans a little bit of added interest in this current round of international games, it will give boss Roberto Martinez a couple of uneasy nights as he waits for his squad to return fit and hopefully healthy on Wednesday.
