Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro` Lawrenson has done his weekly round of predictions for the BBC and he is predicting that the game between Wigan Athletic and Sunderland at the DW Stadium will end in an away win for the Mackems, let`s see what his reasons are:
Wigan v Sunderland
Wigan's result against Tottenham last week was outstanding, earned on the back of a great performance by their keeper Ali Al Habsi. I really didn't see that coming.
But, as shaky as Sunderland are away from home, this being Steve Bruce's return to his old club I just wonder if the Black Cats will step it up a notch at the DW Stadium this weekend.
Darren Bent, on the back of his goal for England in midweek, will be flying too - and even though it could take Asamoah Gyan a while to settle into Premier League football, I think he's a quality addition for the Wearsiders.
Has to be an away win.
Prediction: 1-2
Disagree there Lawro, with Steve Bruce coming back I think it will be the Latics who will step it up, there seems to be a genuine dislike for Bruce from Latics boss Roberto Martinez and last season he spurred his team on to get over a horrendous result at White Hart Lane and bounce back to beat Sunderland.
This time round there is more quality about the Latics and they have just had a confidence boosting win at Spurs, couple this with the Carling Cup win against Hartlepool and we are on a roll, Latics 1-0 Sunderland is my prediction.
