N'Zogbia Wanted To Stay at Wigan

Wigan Athletic winger Charles N`Zogbia has given his side to his recent transfer saga and admitted that although he was close to signing for Birmingham he wanted to stay at the Latics, for the time being at least.

The France international who was left out of the Latics squad for the win at Spurs and only made the bench for last Saturdays draw with Sunderland says he wants to put the past behind him and get back on the pitch playing his football.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post N`Zogbia says he wasn`t interested enough in Birmingham to leave the Latics, he says: 'Now the transfer window has closed, we all have to try to forget about what has happened in the past'

'I was close to going to Birmingham but, in the end, I just wasn't interested enough.

'It wasn't the right club for me and I wanted to stay with Wigan.

'I'm fine now, happy with the situation, and just want to get back onto the field and play my football.'

Strange that. If he was so keen to stay at Wigan and, if he wasn't really that interested in joining Birmingham, I wonder why, on the last day of the transfer window, he phoned phoned Birmingham and told them he had changed his mind about his inflated wage demands and asked if they would re-consider signing him after all. Mr N'Zogbia may be an idiot but, there is no reason to suppose that the fans of Wigan and Birmingham are as stupid as he is. I can only assume that his new found love for Wigan is designed purely to stop the fans getting on his back. Mark my words, come the next transfer window, he will still be trying his hardest to get away.

Welcome to Wigan. We don't have a Waitrose, Harrods, John Lewis, Morrisons, an airport, a cathedral, a glass museum… or very much at all, come to think of it.

But the one thing we do have, apart from the George Formby Memorial Pier, is football. From Wigan United (as opposed to Wigan-United) and Wigan Town through to Wigan Borough and Uncle Joe's FC, the people of this humble mint ball mining settlement have been greatly entertained by men with silly haircuts and nobbly knees atte
