Former Latics Star Suffers Horrendous Injury

Former Wigan Athletic player and fans favourite Antonio Valencia suffered a horrendous injury during last nights Champions League encounter with Rangers at Old Trafford.

The Ecuador international who left the Latics last summer for Manchester United appears to have suffered a broken leg and ankle dislocation following an innocuous challenge during the second half of the game.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told reporters that the injury is similar to the one that former United player Alan Smith suffered at Anfield against Liverpool back in February 2006, that kept the player sidelined for 12 months, so it looks like Valencia will be out for a while

" Gutted. He was surely going to push on this season to become one of the top wingers in football. This injury could well end any chance of that."

Ferguson said: "It was an innocuous challenge but when you saw the Rangers player waving, you knew it was a bad one.

' It is similar to the injury Alan Smith got and you are talking about the rest of the season.'

Vital Wigan send their best wishes for a speedy and full recovery
