Latics Trialist Adrian Lopez Piscu Causing A Stir

Wigan Athletic trialist Adrian Lopez Piscu appears to be causing a bit of a stir back in Spain after the former Deportivo La Coruna defender apparently disappeared.

The 23 year old centre back allowed his contract at the La Liga club to expire at the end of last season and though negotiations had been undertaken on a new deal no agreement had been reached, with the player believed to be seeking a bigger salary than what was on offer.

So Piscu exercised what he believed to be his right as a free agent, search for another club, whilst Deportivo exercised what they believed was their right, a one year extension on the players contract and held on to his registration.

Piscu spent time during August with the Latics as a trialist trying to earn himself a deal in the Premier League, back in Spain Deportivo La Coruna say the player is their man and if the Latics want him it will cost 1.2 million Euros in compensation.

The transfer deadline came and went and though it was rumoured that Roberto Martinez was ready to pay a fee for Piscu, nothing materialised and Deportivo actually registered him as their player with the Spanish FA even though he has never shown up at the club since last season.

Rules in Spain say that if the contract of a player expires who is 23 or under and he has come through the ranks then the club are entitled to automatically extend the players contract for one year. Subsequently if that player then moves to another club a fee in the form of compensation shall be paid, it looks like the problem with Piscu could be testing if that rule is bound just in Spain or throughout FIFA, as far as the Latics are concerned they might have another `Andy Webster` case on their hands.

"Sounds like another Webster case, or something similar. Hopefully he's a bit better."

HAVE YOUR SAY
Complicated? Not half, no word on the where abouts of Adrian Lopez Piscu at this time, he may be in Wigan, he may be in Spain, but one thing is for certain he isn`t playing football at the moment. Vital Wigan will of course let you know if we find out where he is.
