An Evening With Paul Jewell - What A Night

Friday 17th September 2010 was a date that was etched prominently in my diary; former Wigan Athletic manager and player Paul Jewell was doing an after dinner talk at Haigh Hall, not to be missed.

An evening with Paul Jewell was a fantastic event, a great night for any Latics fan listening to the former boss reminisce, telling stories in his own imitable way and answering some questions from the packed audience.

There were one or two familiar faces in the audience and I managed to have a catch up with some people I hadn`t seen for a while, JayT from Cockney Latic, who was actually sat on the top table hob knobbing with Mr Jewell and an old acquaintance Manny, no not the Stone Roses one, the Aspull Juniors manager and coach, always good to catch up.

Malcolm Lord, who hosted the event, asked that what was said in the room stayed in the room so of course I won`t be breaking any confidences but to be honest there was nothing controversial, just some good humoured stories and the recounting of some special memories from down the years.

Bobby Campbell got a special mention, as did the squad of the promotion year, listening to Jewell speak you can tell that the Latics have a special place in his heart and when he says 'I am a supporter` you know he is telling the truth.

A great night, I left with tears of laughter on my cheeks and a fair amount of beer in my bellie, highly recommended.
