Gary Caldwell On Road To Recovery

Wigan Athletic skipper Gary Caldwell is making great progress on his road to recovery from two hip operations during the summer and this afternoon the centre half played 45 minutes of a behind the scenes game against Conference side York City.

Caldwell was only expected to be playing again towards the end of October so he is making great strides, speaking to the Latics official website the Scotland international sounds like he is bubbling about getting back so quickly.

Caldwell said: 'It was great to be back playing in a game, albeit a bounce game, it was a good 45 minutes, it felt really good and hopefully I wont be too stiff in the morning and I can kick on again.

'That's the last part of your rehab once you're playing football games and I'm at that stage now and I'm just looking to the next stage of getting 90 minutes under my belt.

'Hopefully there's a game next week and I can get involved in that and keep doing my work in training and keep trying to progress and force myself into the team again.'

For the record Latics won the game against York 1-0
