West Ham Reserves 2-0 Wigan Athletic Reserves

Wigan Athletic club skipper Gary Caldwell took another step on the road to recovery from his hip operations when he featured for the reserves in tonight`s Barclay`s Premier Reserve League North game against West Ham United

The Hammers had quite a strong side out with Winston Reid, Radoslav Kovac, Jonathan Spector and Benni McCarthy all starting

Latics had the first chance of the game on 12 minutes when Jordan Rugg directed a header wide when well placed and should have done better, West Ham made Latics pay for this miss 1 minute later when Benni McCarthy smashed a shot past Latics keeper Welsby from inside the box.

The Latics were under the cosh somewhat in the first half as West Ham created some good chances, Gary Caldwell cleared from under his own bar and Latics managed to keep the score down to just the one as half-time came.

West Ham made it 2-0 on 51 minutes when Sears scored an individual effort and so ends Latics Reserves unbeaten start to the season.

West Ham United Reserves: Boffin, Spence, Reid (Eyjolfsson 43), Tomkins, Brown, Spector (Abdulla 73), Kovac, Lee, Stanislas (Hall 73), Sears, McCarthy

Subs not used: Cowler, Moncur, Wearen

Wigan Athletic Reserves: Welsby, Buxton, Caldwell (Golobart 65), Robinson, Girvan, Breeze (Watson 89), Serrano (Holt 65), Morris, Redmond, Rugg, McManaman
