Phileas Figueroa Around The World in 8 Days

Wigan Athletic left back Maynor Figueroa is on a major around the world trek similar to the epic one made by Phileas Fogg in Jules Vernes famous story, but unlike Fogg, Figgy wont have 80 days to complete the mammoth journey because the Latics will be facing Newcastle in just 8 days time.

Figueroa is on international duty for Honduras and will meet up with the rest of the squad in the country`s capital Tegucigalpa (5240 miles), then he will be jetting off to New Zealand where they will play a friendly international in Wellington at the southern tip of the North Island on Saturday (7267 miles).

Following the game its back on board Air Jet-Lag and a long haul flight to Washington DC, USA (8746 miles) where Honduras will face Guatemala in another friendly on Tuesday, then after the game another gruelling trip its back to Manchester Airport (3549 miles) to report back for training at the Latics, then up to Newcastle on Saturday (160 miles).

A total of 24,962 miles, I wonder if he`ll know what day it is?

Staj looked really our of place in left back against wolves

I wondered about that substitution at the time but then realised Roberto had the team switch to 3 at the back when Stam came on, so he played as an extra midfielder to try and break Wolves down the better - which eventually worked, of course.

But that's certainly tough on Figueroa!

Having traveled NZ to UK and back I know how those long haul flights can wear you down. Least I had 3 months in between flights, I pity him and his 3 days....
