Honduras Draw With New Zealand


Wigan Athletic supporters adopted favourite nation Honduras, played out a creditable 1-1 draw with New Zealand in Auckland as part of their mammoth world tour.

Trailing 1-0 at half time the Los Catrachos piled on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded with a fine equalising goal from Martinez, but with time running out, 89 minutes on the clock to be precise, New Zealand were awarded the softest penalty for a phantom foul.

Up stepped Shane Smeltz and crashed his spot kick against the bar then blazed the follow up way over, justice was done.

Now it`s up to Washington DC for Figgy and co to play a friendly against Guatemala on Tuesday before returning back to Wigan on Thursday.

A good result considering the Honduran team did not use their european based players.
